Great Social Studies Websites

Declaration of Independence
This site is dedicated to the Declaration of Independence. Students can learn what acts led up to construction of the Declaration. The site provides information on the signers, how it was safeguarded, the publishing of the document, and the actual words of the Declaration of Independence. This site provides great images of actual documents.

Virtual Jamestown

This site is an interactive site that allows students to interact with the materials posted regarding Jamestown. Students can view maps, real documents, public records, labor contracts, court records, and photos. This would be a great website to develop a unit of colonialism around. The site even offers examples of how other students and teachers are using these resources to learn. The Virtual Jamestown Archive is a digital research, teaching and learning project that explores the legacies of the Jamestown settlement and "the Virginia experiment." As a work in progress, Virtual Jamestown aims to shape the national dialogue on the occasion of the four hundred-year anniversary observance in 2007 of the founding of the Jamestown colony.
